About Dr. Travis J. Elliott
Mission
My mission is to listen to each individual’s story, to teach how that story relates to health, and to guide each individual along a path toward mental, emotional, and physical freedom. For each patient, I create a step-by-step process that takes advantage of the best of both alternative and conventional medicine.
As a naturopathic physician, I am expert in the use of natural supplements and nutrition. I’m also licensed in the state of Oregon as a primary care practitioner, so I can prescribe drugs when appropriate. For example, a patient came to the clinic needing a prescription to refill her blood pressure medication. At the first appointment, I gave her the refill on the drug she needed and we began to work on a treatment plan that would eventually allow her to get off the drug when her blood pressure was low enough. Her goal was to try using natural medicine to improve her health, and my job was to make that transition as easy as possible.
Background
Throughout my life, I’ve harbored equal passions for both learning and teaching. After graduating from Swarthmore College, I joined the 1996 Teach For America corps and taught two years of high school science in San Jose, California.
After developing a powerful interest in the emerging science of mind/body medicine, I entered the National College of Natural Medicine (NCNM) in Portland, Oregon—one of the most respected four-year naturopathic medical schools in North America. After earning my Naturopathic Doctorate (N.D.) with an emphasis on classical homeopathy, I was selected for the prestigious NCNM Family Medicine Residency Program and received a “Making a Difference; Inspirational Award” from my peers.
It was during this residency that I gained hundreds of extra hours of clinical training. I also participated in the Oregon Health & Science University (OHSU) Integrative Medicine Program as part of a team consisting of a chiropractor, a medical doctor, a naturopathic doctor, and an acupuncturist who collaborated to solve medical problems. I’m also a Certified BodyTalk Practitioner and have completed advanced studies in endocrinology and thyroid disease.
Philosophy
Throughout my early training and ongoing private practice, I have consistently pushed the boundaries of what was known about health and disease. I’ve always believed that the human body has an ability to heal itself and that the best medicine complements and supports this ability. My unique approach to the services I provide supports this principle. Please contact the clinic to make an appointment.
Personal
When I’m not working, I like to spend time with my wife and children, playing soccer and lacrosse as well as camping, hiking, and swimming in lakes. I also play basketball, read fiction, and watch TV series on DVD while indulging in the occasional spoonful of chocolate peanut butter ice cream.
